Chairman’s Report February 2010

About a dozen interested residents attended a meeting on the grass verge of the lay-by in Penley on the 26 Jan. Several species of trees were suggested for planting. It was also suggested that a bench, a litter bin and a “welcome to Penley”/ interpretation board would add to the area for visitors and residents. The trees should be planted by the end of March and funding will be sought for the bench and sign. Do you know of a place in Penley that needs to be spruced up or further enhanced? Let us know as soon as possible as funding is available for community projects but applications have to be in by 31 March.

The Community Council were very saddened by the arson attack on the Dymocks. We have been in contact with Wrexham planning department with a view to having this Grade II listed building reinstated if at all possible.

In the early hours of Sunday 18th October a car smashed into the noticeboard.  The police were quickly summoned by alert villagers.  With information the council can get from the police we will pursue the insurance and have the noticeboard up and running as soon as we can.

POLICE WARNING

Dear All,

I have recently received information from West Mercia Police that they are currently experiencing a new trend in theft from motor vehicles.

It would appear that the offender/s are targeting Childs Car Seats which are left in vehicles overnight, I understand that these are quite expensive items and I would suggest that they are being stolen and then subsequently sold on.

Could I ask everyone to forward this e-mail to anyone who may benefit from this advice, also if you know any neighbour / local residents that leave car seats in their vehicles overnight I`m sure they would appreciate the warning.

To date we have not had any similar thefts, and with your help we won`t have any in the near future.

Clearly I would suggest that no items of value are left in any vehicle and all vehicles are locked when unattended.

Your help in this matter would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Luke
