BW Says:
me and all of my friends from school who live in neighbouring viliages would like to see a skatepark in Penley, the
nearest park is at least 7 miles away and all ages would be able to use the park if precausions such as authorised by a parent
or guardian were taken, almost all of my friends in and around penley own a B.M.X, skateboard or rollerskates and have all
asked me to ask about one being placed.
BW Response:
following the skatepark statement
, i would also like to include that it would give teenagers chance to do something in the villiage which could reduce the
chance of crime in the villiage, but also giving adults and children something to do.

LM Says:
Is
there any mileage in a "plant exchange"? I've got lots of plants that I could split, and as I walk around the
village see lots of plants I'd like ...
-------
SR Says:
I
note that planning permission for the bus park and sports complex has been made at long last. Will this plan involve some
remodelling of the main Penley street? That is, following on from the request for planters to inject some beauty into the
village, will the plans involve the restoration of some greenery on the school side and the reduction of (obvious) street
furniture? At the moment, Penley has a very 'urban' feel, you only have to visit neighbouring villages to feel the
difference. It would be good to have the sense that school buses are only guests to the village, not that they are our sole
inhabitants.

SR Says:
If
a skate park was to be built on the existing site consideration would have to be given to:
Repetitive noise for local
residents
Size - may need a large area and may need to remove swings etc
Age - again skate park may exclude younger
children
Inclusivity - following on, anyone can sit on a swing, but not so many may use the skate park. It may also be
subject to fashion and like BMX parks may soon wane in use.
Overton
have combined the needs of all ages very effectively though admittedly, on a bigger site.
Residents of the Morris Homes
estate all quote that a play park was to be built as part of the complex. Is this still the case and if so when? This may
also influence the decision on how the Pendas site is developed.

SH Says:
Am
I the only person living beyond Pendas Park who finds the level of parking up to the end of Penley Hall Drive both difficult
and dangerous for exiting onto the main road outside the school? This is quite worrying as cars entering the road cannot
see exiting cars until its too late and the parking takes up a third of the road width

P. S. would like flower planters to be placed around the village to make
it more attractive.
The MSCC's Response:
This proposal was discussed at the
meeting on 1st April. It was felt it was a very good idea to try to make Penley look more attractive and planters, if well
maintained, would certainly do so. However such planters (large wooden ones were envisaged) would require planning permission,
purchase and maintenance the cost of all of which would have to be borne by the Community Council, money which it does not
have. The clerk will however contact the Borough Council about replacing the dead cherry tree near the notice board and perhaps
adding some more trees in the verge down A539. If P. S. would like to organise other like-minded villagers to form a maintenance
group and do some fund raising, the Community Council will support them in their efforts.
P.S. Response:
Before contacting you, I got in touch with Wrexham
Council and they said that if the village got them then they could maintain them. Another idea is that local companies
buy the plants for the planters and place an advertisement for their business on the planter. Free or at
cost these would be similar to the ones in Ellesmere.
The MSCC's Response:
The clerk of
the community council contacted the appropriate Wrexham council authorities concerning the proposed planters. Planning permission
is not required as a planter would be considered temporary. Mike Feeley would be available to approve siting as various
conditions have to be met. Wrexham council doesn't not have any money available this financial year but might do next
year to help pay for the planters. And finally and crucially council workers could not undertake maintenance as Penley is
too far out. Maintenance would have to be dependent on local residents, especially for watering in dry weather, as well as
the usual weeding, tidying and initial planting out. PS and anyone else interested in this project is invited to attend
the next council meeting on 3rd June in Bettisfield Village Hall at 7:30 pm to discuss proposals and viability of the project.
The council thought this was a very good idea in principle but would require the help and co-operation of Penley residents.

Mrs I. would like the playground in Pendas Park to be revamped and modernised.
The MSCC's Response:
The clerk wrote to Wrexham Council which replied that the
problems with drainage will be looked at in the spring. The equipment meets safety standards and is regularly inspected. There
are no funds available at the moment to upgrade or add to the equipment. The MSCC is looking into finding funding for this.
HH says:
I too would like to see the Pendas playground improved as more
and more younger children are becoming part of the village, it seems a shame and an obstacle to get in your car (if you have
one) and drive to Overton, which isn't a great deal bigger than the space thats available here. I think it would also
bring residents together who have children as there is nowhere for mothers/fathers and young children to meet up in the village.
To follow on from S.R's point regarding Morris Homes building a play area, I was informed, as I live on the Morris estate,
that this would take place when the site is completed and in the current climate this could be a very long time in the future.

Mr F. was happy to see the Arrive Alive van in Penley on a Sunday but thought it would be of more
use during the working week particularly at 'school run' time because his observations are that this is when a lot
of speeding takes place.
Mrs S. says that on Sunday mornings, especially in fine weather, the motorcycles are out going at great
speed all along the A539 including Penley. The Arrive Alive van is always welcome.
